IN MEMORIAMTo Carol Brummett, service was time well-spent. She was a woman who dedicated decades to a career, family, and various volunteer roles. This included countless
hours to The Friends of the Summerville Library (the George H. Seago, Jr., Branch of Dorchester County Library). Whether it was as an officer, a helper at fundraisers, or creator of warm hospitality at meetings, Carol exuded boundless, inspirational energy. She taught us, by example, to share our unique talent or gift: where and when we are able, we each can help to better a situation. We—The Friends, deeply saddened by Carol Brummett’s death in December 2023—dedicate the following piece by 19th–century American author Ralph Waldo Emerson. As a definition of “success,” we believe these words are one way to honor Carol, her life, and her good works which now have become our fond memory. . . . To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To give of one’s self; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - This is to have succeeded. The Family invites all Friends of The Dorchester County Public Libraries to a Memorial Service for Carol Brummett, Thursday, April 18, 6:00 pm at the Seacoast Church, 301 East 5th Street, Summerville, South Carolina. |
